Sphaeralcea - Newleaze Coral
Wow, what a color! Sphaeralcea 'Newleaze Coral', often searched as sphaeralcea newleaze coral, is a free-flowering beauty from May–June until frost. Gardeners love its surprisingly intense coral-red, 1-inch mini hollyhock-like blooms on this western native Globe Mallow.
Low-maintenance and both heat- and drought-tolerant, it features graceful, multi-branching stems clothed in soft, ever grey-green lobed foliage. Plentiful blooms sway with the slightest breeze, creating a lively display. It’s especially striking when planted in groups and also thrives in a large container (10+ gallons).
For best results, provide good drainage and average to low fertility soil. Plants reach about 3–4 feet tall and wide. In its second year, cut back to 12–18 inches to maintain a bushy shape. This variety attracts bees and butterflies and is deer resistant.
