Lewisia cotyledon - Sunset Strain
Gorgeous in flower, this perennial jewel of the Pacific Northwest is also extremely hardy, long blooming and low maintenance if you provide it with a happy home. From a burst of bloom in May, it delivers a succession of flower clusters to September in a radiant range of sunset colors such as apricot, pink, tangerine, yellow, and occasionally white. The 1" flowers are held on sturdy 6" stems in radiating clusters above an attractive succulent green 5" rosette that develops into a considerable mound with time. Deeply tap-rooted, Lewisia benefits from some dryness, so plant in a clay pot with some gravel added or stick them in the cracks of a rock wall (they love that). That's not asking much, eh?
