Eschscholzia californica - Red Glow
This California Native Poppy variety adds just the right eye-catching animation and flash to your garden with a long-blooming display of vivid 2" tangerine-red satiny flowers for several months. Eschscholzia, better known as the California Poppy, are wildflowers native to Western North America that bloom in many colors beyond the iconic orange, including the softest of pinks to the boldest of reds, with pops of purple and yellow splashed in there too! The foliage is an attractive blue-green that adds interest to your garden even before the blooms appear. The bees love to dance in its pollen and some local butterflies will also seek out its nectar for nutrition. Once established, they need little water. Deadhead to keep those flowers coming! Drought tolerant, deer resistant and self-sows! Plants will live several years if cut back and kept dry-ish in Summer. To maintain as a perennial, avoid watering once leaves begin to dry out. Cut back dead growth to the ground once you see a flush of new growth. Looks fabulous planted together with the blues of Penstemon heterophyllus - Blue Springs Foothill Penstemon
California Poppies are easy to grow in your full-sun location!
