Clarkia amoena - Scarlet
Brilliant, blazing, and absolutely impossible to ignore, Clarkia amoena ‘Scarlet’ may be one of the showiest Clarkias of all. This California native wildflower bursts into bloom with intense scarlet, open-faced flowers, each petal edged in a thin pink border that leads to a soft pink heart. The effect is bold, romantic, and wildly cheerful — like a little wildfire of petals, but with manners.
Also known as Godetia, Scarlet Clarkia blooms in spring to early summer, often producing 6" wide clusters of 2" flowers above finely textured green foliage. Growing up to 24" tall and 30" wide, it is stunning in sunny borders, dry garden beds, native plantings, wildflower gardens, and massed displays where its color can truly set the bed ablaze.
Plant Clarkia amoena ‘Scarlet’ in full sun with well-drained soil. Once established, it is surprisingly drought tolerant and may reseed if allowed to set seed. Beloved by bees and especially butterflies, this easy annual brings bright California drama wherever you need a splash of scarlet.
