Ceanothus - Ray Hartman
Big, bold, beautiful, and blessedly easygoing for a Ceanothus, this evergreen California native can be grown as a large shrub or small tree and is one of the best for garden use. Clouds of soft sky- to lavender-blue flowers smother the branches in spring, drawing in bees, butterflies, and other delighted pollinators. A hybrid of Ceanothus arboreus and Ceanothus griseus, ‘Ray Hartman’ is fast growing, heat-tolerant, handsome year-round, and notably accommodating, even accepting occasional summer water once established. Long-lived by Ceanothus standards and wonderfully low maintenance. Hardy to about 10–15 °F. To about 15' x 15', sometimes larger with age.
